Logo Design

by Sarah Stone

Your logo is a visual representation of everything your company stands for. A great logo should entice new clients and spark an interest in those who seek you out. Your logo becomes you, it supports your identity and becomes a familiar face in a crowd.  Starting with your identity and branding to marketing and advertising, a single project or a long term affiliation. We delight in the spark of visual communication + concept as well as the brainstorming process.

Using both verbal and visual language to convey meaningful information to the end user or consumer, we work closely to render both advisory and artistic creative services.

Creating a logo design is always both enjoyable and an accomplishment when completed. It encompasses so much of who and what a business is, it means so much often without having to state so. At a tangible level, your business name, tagline, color scheme and the content you publish, embody your brand and present it visually and conceptually. In other words. .  . . It’s really important stuff!

Once we have created the perfect logo and branding material, you can also apply for a trademark at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Talk to us, we know communication is key. Our team will work together with you to find the right approach and direction for the right results.

A logo should always hold its own in black and white, and sometimes that’s all you need. Here are a few of our favorites we have worked on: Logo Design, Logo Design Clearwater

Illustration

by Sarah Stone

By communicating visually with an illustration, technical details can be better understood and provide an alternate to a text based offering alone. With the production of info graphics and illustrations, a visual connection side by side with a text explanation can help provide what would otherwise be a complexed or often boring description. From 3D logos to technical illustrations such as vector diagramscross sectionscharts, maps or architectural drawings, to mainstream editorial illustrations and icons we can provide our clients with custom illustrations of their products and convert photography into striking editorial portraiture.

For a long time photography was at the forefront of commercial publishing, with heavy coverage on color magazines and ad campaigns, but with changes in advertising and the ability to reproduce complex images as a digital illustration, we find that this service is more and more in demand. Starting with your identity and branding to marketing and advertising services, a single project or a long term affiliation. We delight in the spark of visual communication + concept. Using both verbal and visual language to convey meaningful information to the end user or consumer, we work closely to render both advisory and artistic creative services. From logo design and illustration to building your business brand. We speak creativity and formulate success.

H.R. Giger – A Tribute

by Sarah Stone

 Hellish Hybrids and Biochemical Design

H.R. Giger

Hans Rudolf “Ruedi” Giger (/ˈɡɡər/; 5 February 1940 – 12 May 2014) was a Swiss surrealist painter, sculptor and set designer. In honor of his passing, here is a short video representing some of H.R. Giger’s work.  A uniquely creative artist and designer, sculptor and Academy Award winner. A talent and artist exponent of spectacular, often horrific, nightmare-esque art.

His work was always dynamic and deep, from his set of Tarot cards to the Aliens from the same titled movie. It’s Giger who is responsible for the look of the eponymous creature, all slimy sinew, acidic blood and double-jawed fangs.

Giger’s work explored the relationship between the human body and the machine, and he created surrealist images of humans fused with industrial parts, a style he described as “biomechanics”. Giger’s works, often showing macabre scenes of bodies  fused into hellish hybrids, influenced a generation of movie directors, art students and inspired an enduring popularity for “biomechanical” art.

“My paintings seem to make the strongest impression on people who are, well, who are crazy. A good many people think as I do. If they like my work they are creative… or they are crazy,” Giger said in an 1979 interview with Starlog magazine.

He has been a favorite artist of mine for his willingness to dig deep into his imagination and show no fear of sharing what he found.

Giger was also known for his sculptures, paintings and furniture and many of these works are on display at his own museum in a medieval castle in Gruyeres, central Switzerland, which is run by his second wife Carmen Maria Scheifele Giger.

The museum, which opened in 1998 also houses Giger’s private art collection, including works by Salvador Dali.

What key components lead to a good graphic design?

by Sarah Stone

This has to subjective. . right?

To a point, yes. But there are several key points that should be emphasized when creating a design for example of a postcard.
I have my own list of importance as well as some other points that are key to attracting an audience.

1) Before you can even start in the creativity department, you need to “Define the purpose.” What is the ultimate goal of this piece of advertising? What are you trying to tell your audience? Remember not to be overly confusing with multiple messages. Simplicity is always a good starting point.

2) Readability and Alignment are important to consider for a client will only read what they can easily set their eyes on. You want to provide information using both verbal and visual language to inspire someone to take action, but they’ll never know that if they can’t understand what the message is you are trying to convey. personally, text slightly out of alignment drives me crazy.

3) You want eye-catching material that makes the recipient want to look it over and spend some time absorbing the information then it has to be “Appealing” in ways such as a clear and precise headline, supporting relevant graphics, the offer needs to front and forward and a certain call to action.

4) Design– You need an understanding of graphics and layout, not just how to make good a good logo or edit an image. One key aspect of a great layout is more about what’s in between your various page elements. Whitespace or negative space. Don’t over saturate the space you have with too much content, there is a fine balance between your work as a designer, the space a client wishes to purchase and advising them on what is best. They no doubt want o buy the smallest postcard to keep down cost but then fill with information. It can be tough but building a trusting relationship is very important where your client listens to your advise and takes it.

Pencil and Paper

by Sarah Stone

Sometimes when I am lost for ideas and looking for inspiration I love to come across something that appears so simple yet remarkable. Here is an advertisement for Staedtler that sparks the imagination in an elementary form. I love pencils. .  It is how I start many designs, concepts and copy. Having the words in front of me, my own writing, shape and size of letters I can analyze the emphasis of how something is written which also helps identify the importance of a certain key work. Plus sketching also removes me from looking at a monitor briefly. (Which is back where I am now writing this?)

Sketching. . . Pencils . . . free yourself from the office space and draw.

Welcome to Illumination Advertising

by illa_admin

Illumination Advertising, Inc. began late in 2011 yet the inspiration had been there for much, much longer. Having been in the print, design and marketing business for over 15+ years I have obtained a vast knowledge and gained a firsthand perspective on the advertising industry. It is both personally and professionally rewarding to see a positive change cultivate and develop for another, be it a small home business or on a larger corporate scale, the results always speak for themselves.

The relationships I have built over the years with vendors, clients and employees alike are all tools that help the Illumination Advertising grow and develop and it is this respect I have for all affiliations that will contribute to how we grow, step by step, client by client, relationship by relationship.

I look forward to sharing with you selected work samples by way of our portfolio & writings based on our experiences and insight via our blog. This is where you will find a little of our observations and perspective as to what is happening and trending in the advertising + design industry.

Let’s chat soon!
